On Sunday 6th April, I've released a new version of Open IT Online: my last bet into the Firefox extension world. This new version (v1.2) is a major update because it introduces the support for online image editors: yes, you understood well, now Open IT Online allows you to edit online the images you find on the net. There are already other extensions allowing to do that, but ...

For the first time, this year I attended to FOSDEM in Bruxelles and I must say I enjoyed a lot the time spent there. FOSDEM is the Free and Open source Software Developers' European Meeting, it is a 2 day event, organised by volunteers, to promote the widespread use of Free and Open Source software. Mozilla had a dedicated room to hold talks and sessions.
The Mozilla talks I've attended were extremely ...

A new version of PDF Download (1.0.0.2) has been published today. This version fixes a regression introduced in 1.0.0.1 regarding the detection of the mouse middle-click.

As you may already know, PDF Download has been acquired on December by Nitro PDF Software. This will allow PDF Download to grow more and to have a better PDF to HTML service: now it will be faster and more stable.

PDF Download remains FREE and OPEN SOURCE: the Firefox community is welcome to report bugs/feature request on the official PDF Download Forum.

Good news for Firefox users: a new version of PDF Download has been released! It is currently under review by the Mozilla Team and hopefully it will be available in the next coming days. The major improvements are:
  • Fixed bug about URL, sent to the conversion mirrors, that contains special characters.
  • Fixed the detection of default PDF viewer: now it works also in Linux. The same work-around used in the Firefox Download Manager, has been implemented.
  • Introduced the possibility to type by hand the path of custom viewer: it is also possible to write just the name of the file (and not the absolute path) if the directory containing that file is defined in the PATH environment variable.
Another thing worth to be mentioned is that PDF Download website is now available also in italian, check it out!

Even if most of the websites are using PHP, ASP.NET, or JSP pages, there is still a quite big market for alternative solutions. Among these there is Adobe ColdFusion, an application server and software development framework used in particular for development of dynamic web sites. If you plan on having any kinds of ColdFusion pages or applications built into your site then it will be important for you to decide on what kind of hosting you'll be getting because you'll need ColdFusion hosting as part of your package. There are many kinds of such hosting, some without many frills or options, and others with powerful control panels (such as Intermedia.net) so you have full control over how your ColdFusion web hosting treats your code. Also keep in mind that various hosts may be working with older versions of the software, so if you specifically need ColdFusion MX hosting definitely keep that in mind.

If you have any feedback about other good ColdFusion hosting, don't hesitate to post your comment here.

Google launched it's new feature of Google Maps: Street View. This feature allows users to view and navigate within 360 degree in the streets of various cities in US: San Francisco, New York, Denver, Las Vegas, Miami.
It's really cool and easy to use: you just need to go to maps.google.com, search for one of these cities and click on the "Street View" button. With Street View users can virtually walk the streets of a city, check out a restaurant before arriving, and even zoom in on bus stops and street signs to make travel plans: see here an example.
To use Street View...

Yesterday, Microsoft unveiled his new product: Microsoft Surface. What is it? In his website Microsoft defines Surface as "Microsoft’s first surface computer that provides effortless interaction with digital content through natural hand gestures, touch and physical objects. Surface computing breaks down traditional barriers between people and technology, changing the way people interact with all kinds of everyday information — from photos to maps to menus."

Personally, I think the result achieved by Microsoft is quite impressive: a part from ...
