Hey all, I am happy to announce that View Docs Online is finally available to all of you: try it out and let me know your feedback!

View Docs Online is a website that allows users to view many different documents online in a very simple way.

To view a document in your computer, you just need to visit View Docs Online homepage, click on “Browse…” to choose the document and then click on “View Document”. That’s it!

If you just want to try it out, you can use the “URL” tab: an existing url is prefilled and hence you just need to click on “View Document”. Feel free to enter a different url if you want to view another document that is on the net.

If you like View Docs Online, don’t forget to spread the word about it in blogs, forums, etc.

Mozilla have just released the first alpha version of Fennec: the mobile version of Firefox. At the moment Fennec can run only on Nokia N810 Internet Tablets; if you don't have such mobile, then you can always try Fennec in a Desktop environment. Fennec, even if still in alpha stage, supports:

• Bookmarks, including tags
• Smart URL bar ("awesome bar")
• Tabbed browsing with thumbnail images
• Integrated Web search - built into the URL bar
• Easy access to multiple search engines
• Zoom in and out
• Click on a phone number to initiate a call
• JavaScript API to get device location
• etc.

It's difficult to say now if Fennec will win the battle against Opera Mobile, Safari Mobile and others; for sure, the possibility to develop add-ons will help Fennec as it did for Firefox.

Few weeks ago I've discovered a really nice Firefox extension, called TV Manager, that allows me to find quickly the answer to one of my most frequent questions: What's on TV tonight? TV Manager gathers television listings from different countries and channels and displays them in the browser sidebar in a convenient way.
At the moment, TV Manager can be installed only registering to the Mozilla Addons site: this is due to the fact that Mozilla editors didn't review it and make it public. I encourage you to write a review about TV Manageron the Mozilla site: more reviews an extension gets, more likely it becomes public.
TV Manager has been also certified 100% clean by Softpedia. It is definitely worth to give it a try!

Recently I've stumbled upon a cool website, Last.fm, where you can listen online to your favourite songs. The great thing is that Last.fm is able to propose other songs that you probably like. In fact, the website keeps track of the songs you listened and then it proposes some others that are similar. All that is for FREE and it works pretty well. There is also a cool Firefox extension, called Fire.fm, that allows you to play the songs directly from your status bar or toolbar. All in all, it represents a nice way to listen to your favourite music.

For the first time, this year I attended to FOSDEM in Bruxelles and I must say I enjoyed a lot the time spent there. FOSDEM is the Free and Open source Software Developers' European Meeting, it is a 2 day event, organised by volunteers, to promote the widespread use of Free and Open Source software. Mozilla had a dedicated room to hold talks and sessions.
The Mozilla talks I've attended were extremely well done and it was exciting to meet a lot of Mozilla geeks and to meet for the first time people that I knew only thanks to their nickname.
I had the occasion to meet Massimiliano Mirra (author of SamePlace Instant Messenger), Giacomo Magnini and Gabriele Tittonel (Mozilla Italia), Ben Bucksch (independent developer), David Vismans (part of the TomTom crew), Tristan Nitot (President of Mozilla Europe), etc.

We also had the opportunity to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Mozilla: they organized a party where we had dinner and we played bowling until late in the night. It was a good way to socialize and speak about Mozilla development and other interesting ideas.

All in all, I'm very happy to have been there and to have met all these geeks.

Even if most of the websites are using PHP, ASP.NET, or JSP pages, there is still a quite big market for alternative solutions. Among these there is Adobe ColdFusion, an application server and software development framework used in particular for development of dynamic web sites. If you plan on having any kinds of ColdFusion pages or applications built into your site then it will be important for you to decide on what kind of hosting you'll be getting because you'll need ColdFusion hosting as part of your package. There are many kinds of such hosting, some without many frills or options, and others with powerful control panels (such as Intermedia.net) so you have full control over how your ColdFusion web hosting treats your code. Google launched it's new feature of Google Maps: Street View. This feature allows users to view and navigate within 360 degree in the streets of various cities in US: San Francisco, New York, Denver, Las Vegas, Miami.
It's really cool and easy to use: you just need to go to maps.google.com, search for one of these cities and click on the "Street View" button. With Street View users can virtually walk the streets of a city, check out a restaurant before arriving, and even zoom in on bus stops and street signs to make travel plans: see here an example.
To use Street View, the user just need a browser that support Ajax and the latest version of Flash plug-in: according to Adobe more than 80% of the users meet these requirements.
Also Microsoft in the past worked on something similar but without much success, look at its preview.

Yesterday, Microsoft unveiled his new product: Microsoft Surface. What is it? In his website Microsoft defines Surface as "Microsoft’s first surface computer that provides effortless interaction with digital content through natural hand gestures, touch and physical objects. Surface computing breaks down traditional barriers between people and technology, changing the way people interact with all kinds of everyday information — from photos to maps to menus."

Personally, I think the result achieved by Microsoft is quite impressive: a part from the multi-touch interface (already seen on the Apple iPhone), I really liked the interactivity that this product brings to you. You can plant a Bluetooth or WiFi-capable device on the table and it will be recognized instantly by Surface: then you can drag data from a device to another, see information about the device itself, etc. (see the video below).

The first companies to utilize the Surface will be Harrah’s Entertainment Inc., Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc., and T-Mobile USA Inc.

Good news for Linux! Dell Inc. officially launched its first three consumer PCs running Linux: two desktops and one laptop. Dell announced what flavor of Linux it would use in the PCs, Ubuntu 7.04, earlier this month. It's the same OS Michael Dell, the chairman and CEO of the company, uses on his Dell Precision M90 laptop at home.
As reported on Dell website, they decided to give the chance to have a computer with Linux already installed, in response to customer feedback collected at www.ideastorm.com, a Web site set up to solicit customer suggestions. Over 100,000 people participated in surveys about the systems and what kind of Linux to install in the machines, Dell said in a statement.
The prices of the PCs with Ubuntu already installed are competitive but not so cheap as somebody could have expected: the laptop starts at $599, while the two desktops, the Dimension E520 and XPS 410n, start from $599 and $849 each, respectively. A comparable XPS 410 with Windows Vista Premium costs $899.
In any case, this is for sure a victory for the Linux supporters: now it's the customer that chooses which OS to install!
