Open IT Online 1.6 is finally out! In this new version, I've introduced a new great online service, Vuzit, to view documents online. From now on, Open IT Online is also compatible with Flock, the social web browser.

"We chose to partner with Open IT Online because of its tight browser integration with Firefox, intuitive user interface, and ease of use", said Chris Cera, CTO of Vuzit.

On 13rd December I've released a new version of Open IT Online. In this new version (v1.5), Open IT Online adds Pixlr to the group of the online image editors you can use. Pixlr is a great flash-based online image editor with a lot of features: you will easily forget about Photoshop. You just need Open IT Online and you will have many of the features you need in your day to day life.

A new version of Open IT Online has just been published: thanks to this version, now we can edit images with Picnik, one of the most powerful online image editors. In addition to this, the new version fixes a small bug in the options dialog regarding the Google Apps url. For more details, you can see the full change log.

This week Open IT Online reached 500.000 downloads from AMO website. In addition to that, I'm also happy to say that almost 100.000 users use Open IT Online every day. I want also to anticipate that a new version of Open IT Online will be published in the coming days: this new version will include the support to one of the most sophisticated online image editor. Stay tuned ; - )

A new version of Open IT Online is available (v1.3). In this version I've included the support for Google Apps: this features was requested by many users. In addition, the new version allows editing background images.

And finally a quick geek note: I've refactored all the code to use namespaces in order to avoid function and variable naming collisions with other extensions and to minimize the number of global variables (if you want to know more about this problem, you can have a look at a post written on the Yahoo User Interface blog).

I'm proud to say that this week Open IT Online reached and overtook 100.000 downloads (actually, now the counter is at 141.000)!!! Thanks to everybody that gave it a try and that keeps using it (40.000 daily users).
Another great news is that Open IT Online is now recommended by Mozilla.

I think Open IT Online will be another great success ; - )

On Sunday 6th April, I've released a new version of Open IT Online: my last bet into the Firefox extension world. This new version (v1.2) is a major update because it introduces the support for online image editors: yes, you understood well, now Open IT Online allows you to edit online the images you find on the net. There are already other extensions allowing to do that, but Open IT Online is different and gives to Firefox users much more freedom: they can choose which online service to use for each image type (GIF, JPG and PNG). This means, that you could decide to use a particular online editor for GIF images and another online service for PNG images.

 Open IT Online: options dialog.

Using the Open IT Online option dialog, it is possible to choose which online editor to use by default for each image type; in addition, when the user right clicks on a image, he has also the possibility to choose, from a list, which online editor to use.

With Open IT Online, Firefox users can edit images online having more freedom than ever. Try it out.

I'm happy to announce that my new Firefox extension is available for download. Its name is Open IT Online: this extension allows to view and edit documents online without needing any software to be installed.
Have you ever been on a PC where you want to view a spreadsheet or a presentation but you don't have installed the related software? Open IT Online solves this situation opening several types of files (documents, spreadsheets, presentations) using online services.
You can configure which online service to use for each file type (*.doc, *.rtf, *.odt, *.sxw, *.xls, *.csv, *.ods, *.sxc, *.ppt, *.pps, *.odp, *.sxi).
Open IT Online already supports different online services: Google Docs, Zoho viewer and ThinkFree.
