As many of you may have already noticed on AMO site, I've recently stopped my effort in PDF Download development. Now the first extension I've ever created is fully under the ownership and responsability of NitroPDF. What else to say...I'm really proud of what I did with PDF Download and now I hope that NitroPDF will make PDF Download even more popular and useful.

Goodbye PDF Download, take care!

A new version of PDF Download (1.0.0.2) has been published today. This version fixes a regression introduced in 1.0.0.1 regarding the detection of the mouse middle-click.

As you may already know, PDF Download has been acquired on December by Nitro PDF Software. This will allow PDF Download to grow more and to have a better PDF to HTML service: now it will be faster and more stable.

PDF Download remains FREE and OPEN SOURCE: the Firefox community is welcome to report bugs/feature request on the official PDF Download Forum.

Hi guys, wonderful news for you: PDF Download 0.9 has been published and it contains a great improvement for Mac users. Now, even if you are a Mac user, you will be able to select your custom PDF viewer in the PDF Download options.
Prior to 0.9 this was not possible and such users were getting the alert "This is not an executable file"; this was caused by the fact that Mac makes use of what they call "bundle" applications, that is, a special directory (where you cannot enter using the "Open file" dialog) containing all the resources needed by an application (and hence also the executable file to be launched).
Thanks to Davide Ficano, we've solved this issue and now all Mac users will be happy!

Another feature we've added in PDF Download 0.9 is the ability to intercept local PDF files that are linked from a web page (imagine an ebook with an index in HTML and the chapters in PDF). For the moment, when the local files are intercepted you do't have the chance to view them as HTML, but we are thinking to introduce the possibility to upload a local file to our mirrors to give the possibility to the user to view it as HTML.
What do you think about that?
Denis

Good news for Firefox users: a new version of PDF Download has been released! It is currently under review by the Mozilla Team and hopefully it will be available in the next coming days. The major improvements are:
  • Fixed bug about URL, sent to the conversion mirrors, that contains special characters.
  • Fixed the detection of default PDF viewer: now it works also in Linux. The same work-around used in the Firefox Download Manager, has been implemented.
  • Introduced the possibility to type by hand the path of custom viewer: it is also possible to write just the name of the file (and not the absolute path) if the directory containing that file is defined in the PATH environment variable.
Another thing worth to be mentioned is that PDF Download website is now available also in italian, check it out!

A new version of PDF Download has been published. Among the new features there is the possibility to show images in the HTML version of the PDF file: even Google does not provide this feature 8 - )

Another small improvement is the possibility to enable/disable the tooltips inside the PDF Download popup dialog.

As you may have already seen, PDF Download is one of the few add-ons recommended by Mozilla.

Don't wait, get the last version!

PDF Download is a Firefox extension that allows to choose whether you want to view a PDF file inside the browser (as PDF or HTML) or you want to download it. This is the right extension for you if you are annoyed to click on a link and then discover that Firefox is loading the Adobe or other PDF plug-in (very heavy) and is trying to show a pdf file directly inside your browser. This extension, every time you click on a link, checks if the target is a pdf file and in this case let you choose what you want to do: open pdf file inside a new tab, download it to the file system or view it as HTML (like Google View as HTML feature).
More than 2 Million people have already downloaded the extension: visit the official PDF Download website and give it a try!

Denis (the developer of this wonderful extension)
